How do I apply for a position?

Applications are accepted year round for Custodial, Child Nutrition and Transportation positions. Online applications are accepted for teachers and other posted positions. Applications can be accessed on the web site at http://www.nnschools.org/jobs.

How long will my application be active?

Your application will remain active for 6 months from the time you apply.

Where is the Human Resources Office located?

The office is located at 12507 Warwick Blvd which is at the corner of Wellesley Drive & Warwick Boulevard and 2 blocks west of Todd's Football Stadium.

What are your hours for the Human Resources Office?

Teacher FAQ

How do I become a teacher if my degree is not in education?

The Department of Education has minimum requirements for every subject and those requirements must be met to be eligible for the Provisional or Conditional License. The best source for this information is http://www.doe.virginia.gov.

How do I get a license to teach?

There are several ways to secure a license to teach:

  • Complete a teaching program at an accredited college/university;
  • Hold a bachelor's degree and complete a major in the subject area that will be taught;
  • Be within 6 credit hours of the required content coursework specified for a given subject area;
  • Complete a Career Switcher program;
  • Reciprocity - hold a valid out-of-state teaching licensure.

Where can I find information about a Career Switcher Program?

A program is offered by Old Dominion University and information can be obtained by calling (757) 683-4686.

How long does it take for the Department of Education to issue my license?

Four to six weeks.

What local colleges/universities offer teacher programs?

The College of William and Mary, Hampton University , Norfolk State University , Old Dominion University , Regent University , Christopher Newport University , Virginia Wesleyan and Cambridge College offer teacher programs.

Instructional Assistants FAQ

What are the requirements to be an Instructional Assistant?

At least 2 years (48 credit hours) of higher education or completion of an Associate's Degree or higher, OR successfully passed the ParaPro Test.

Substitute Teacher FAQ

What are the requirements to be a Substitute?

  • Degreed Substitute Teachers must provide unofficial college transcripts and have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Non-Degreed Substitute Teachers must have at least 30 college credit hours or an Associate's degree and provide unofficial college transcripts; have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Substitute Instructional Assistants must have at least a high school diploma or GED. Related experience preferred.

Are substitutes eligible for fringe benefits?

Substitutes are considered temporary employees and are not entitled to benefits.
